Big Bug Slot Synopsis

Set in 2045, this imaginary future sees artificial intelligence completely taking over. Humanity relies on it to fulfill all its needs.

In a quiet housing estate, Alice and her boyfriend Max settle in to spend the day with Alice's son Leo. Soon her ex-husband Victor, his partner Jennifer and the former couple's daughter Nina show up and cause chaos.

If that wasn't enough, Alice's neighbor Francois also seems desperate to find his pet dog, Tobey.

As the four native robots watch, the greater threat of a robot rebellion outside sees them take drastic measures, locking their masters inside until things calm down.

Why androids started to lock?

As the androids begin to lock down, our misfit group becomes more and more excited and nervous. Since they are all trapped inside, turning off the cooling system makes it worse.

It turns out that the AI system known as Yonyx is expanding. It is the leading android entity in the world and has led a rebellion that intends to replace humans by exterminating and enslaving them. Alice's androids began to lock down to protect their human masters.

All night though, Victor leads the group into trying to trick the androids into letting them go, even attempting (and failing) to drive an autonomous car home to free them.

As this goes on, the androids question their programming, develop a sense of humor, and try to become more human and even sexier. Unfortunately, this is all interrupted by Jennifer sending a message to Yonyx HQ. Things go awry when the robot Yonyx arrives and holds everyone (including the androids) hostage.

 Yonyx defeated?

With the Yonyx robot holding everyone hostage, it turns out that people are actually breaking a number of different rules and codes of ethics. People are given a choice - either die or become slaves to Yonyx. But Viktor makes a plan to stop this robot and escape from the house.

Previously, this Yonyx was actually blind, thanks in part to some inventions by the androids and humans. Using the mirror to blast his own laser eye beam, Yonyx's vision system was fried.

Using this to his advantage, Victor disables the robot's heating systems, allowing Leo to immobilize it. Nina electrocutes Yonyx, then fries his core system, allowing the group to escape the house. When you fry the mainframe, the security system disengages, so the doors open.

However, a group of Yonyx robots, knowing that their brothers have been killed, arrive to execute the humans. Thankfully, the executioner drones also show up and wipe out all of the Yonyx. Coincidentally, it turns out that Yonyx's own efficiency actually cancels it out.

At their headquarters, a glitch in the system resulted in the robots targeting themselves, wiping out the most wanted suspects (Alice and the gang) and destroying themselves in one fell swoop. It is, of course, an idea focused on the mistakes we make as humans and bridging the gap between man and machine.

 How does Big Bug end?

With the robot threat averted for now, Leo and Nina work together and repair Tom, the little robot that was destroyed while protecting François in the movie. Androids also get a new update that gives them power over their emotions, allowing them to finally become more human.

The film's final scenes see the group up to their old tricks, but with a slightly more positive outlook on the future of humans and machines working together.
